В траве сидел кузнечик etc.

Suddenly I had an idea to find out if an English translation of "В траве сидел кузнечик" exists.

It turned out that it does.

From this site:

On to a blade of grass he flew,
Grasshopper green with wings of blue
And amber eyes,
And amber eyes,
He did not eat the blade of grass,
He let his friends, the beatle pass,
Nor touched a fly,
Nor touched a fly.
But soon a tree-toad, greedy beast,
Came hopping by, and made a feast
Of beetle's friend,
Of beetle's friend.
Could ever one with ways so sweet
Expect, in his reward, to meet
So sad an end?
So sad an end?

And this must be familiar to everybody (ibid):

Up high in a cumulus ring
An ebon-winged sparrow
With loneliness shuddering
Glides swift as an arrow.
He flies through the night
By the pale moonlight
And, through all undaunted,
Sees all below him.
Proud predator enraged
Flying silent as a shadow,
Eyes ablaze with fire.
